“How much does a new website cost?” is the first question almost everyone asks, and the most common answer, “it depends”, is true but useless. So here is what it actually depends on, with real numbers, including our own.
The short answer
For a small or growing business in Europe, a professional website redesign usually lands somewhere between 2.000 € and 15.000 €. Below that range you are mostly paying for a template and your own time. Above it you are paying for large sites, complex functionality or a big agency team.
Roughly, the market splits like this:
- Do-it-yourself builders (Squarespace, Wix, Webflow templates): a monthly subscription, often 15–50 € a month, plus many hours of your own time. Good for testing an idea, hard to make feel like you.
- Freelancers working from templates: often 800–3.000 €. Quick and affordable; the design is mostly decided by the theme.
- Small studios with custom design: usually 2.500–15.000 €. Strategy, copy, design and development made for your business, by a small team you talk to directly.
- Agencies: from about 15.000 € upwards, often far more. Large teams, account managers, longer processes. Right for complex platforms; often too much for a small business.
These are typical ranges, not rules. Where a project sits depends on the factors below.
What actually drives the price
1. Custom design or a template
A template gives you someone else’s structure with your logo on it. Custom design starts from your business: what visitors need to understand, in what order, and what should make them trust you. That thinking is where most of the value is, and also most of the cost.
2. Who writes the words
Copy is the most underestimated part of any website. Many projects stall for weeks because the client was expected to “send the texts”. A redesign that includes copywriting costs more up front, but it is usually the difference between a pretty site and one that brings enquiries.
3. Number of page types, not number of pages
Ten service pages built from the same layout cost far less than ten pages that each need their own design. When comparing quotes, ask how many unique layouts are included.
4. Functionality
Each of these adds real work: online booking, a shop, member areas, multiple languages, filters and search, custom calculators, integrations with your CRM or newsletter tool. A booking link to a tool like Cal.com is simple; a fully custom booking system is a project of its own.
5. Content management
Do you want to edit the site yourself? Setting up a CMS (content management system) so you can safely change texts, add projects or publish blog posts takes extra time, but saves you paying for every small change later.
6. Motion and interaction
Scroll animations, video and interactive moments make a site memorable, and they take time to design, build and test on every device. Worth it when they serve the story; not every site needs them.
7. Moving your existing site safely
If your current site has Google rankings, the relaunch must keep them: redirects, metadata, page speed, structured data. This is a step that cheap redesigns often skip, and it can cost you months of traffic. We wrote a full guide: how to relaunch a website without losing your Google rankings.
The running costs nobody mentions
The design is a one-off. These are not:
- Domain: usually 10–40 € a year.
- Hosting: from free (for simple static sites on modern hosts) to 10–50 € a month for managed WordPress or shop hosting.
- Website builder or CMS subscription: if your site lives on a platform, often 15–50 € a month.
- Paid plugins, fonts and tools: booking, forms, analytics, premium fonts. Check which ones renew yearly.
- Maintenance: updates, backups and small fixes. Either your time, or a care plan with your designer.
Ask any studio for a list of what you will pay after launch, and to whom. A good answer is specific.
Our prices, openly
We publish our prices because comparing quotes should not require three sales calls. Our packages currently start at (plus VAT where it applies):
- Modern Relaunch, from 2.400 € (1–2 weeks). Your site exists and mostly works; it needs to look and feel like your business today. Up to five refreshed pages, light copy support and mobile optimisation.
- Custom Website, from 4.500 € (4 weeks minimum). A fully custom, strategy-led site with 6–8 pages, copy support, custom development and animation.
- Dream Come True, from 11.000 € (4–8 weeks). Everything from brand direction and tone of voice to complete copywriting, art direction and up to seven fully custom pages.
All three include strategy and design made for you, never a template. You can see exactly what each includes on our pricing page.
How to budget without surprises
- Decide what the site must do. “Look better” is a start. “Bring three qualified enquiries a month” is a brief.
- List what you already have. Logo, photos, texts, testimonials. Every missing piece is work someone has to do.
- Compare like with like. Line up quotes by what they include: copy, number of unique layouts, revisions, CMS, SEO migration, launch support.
- Ask about payment terms. A deposit to secure the start date is normal (ours is 30%, with the rest on completion).
- Plan for after launch. Keep a small budget for the first months: new photos, a landing page, small improvements once you see how visitors behave.
The real question
The better question than “how much does a website cost?” is “what is a client worth to me?” If one new client covers the investment, a site that brings two a year has paid for itself several times over.
